Our work is committed to producing contemporary music that represents the multicultural Western Sydney neighbourhoods we grew up, live and work in. We create a sound that is ‘place based’ and combines diverse music practices and genres into a new contemporary Australian sound…The Western Sydney Sound.

Worlds Collide
A fusion of cultures that invites audiences to move their bodies and open their minds to the new sounds of Western Sydney. Hip hop, African percussion, soaring vocals from the Silk Road and rock guitars. Worlds Collide is a mix of Fela Kuti, KISS and Ice T with 'groove' as the foundation for the social conscious lyrics from the streets of Mt Druitt.

Sydney World Music Chamber Orchestra
(Experimental 11-piece ensemble)
The 11 piece Orchestra was formed with artists from diverse cultural in Western Sydney, creating 'new' Australian music. Featuring traditions from Aboriginal Australia, Mongolia, Uyghur, Vietnam, China (and more). Fusing the ancient with virtuoso playing while looking to the future
Shohrat Tursun Trio
Internationally renowned Uyghur musician from Casula. A dynamic combination of ancient melodies and African rhythms woven into contemporary compositions that can only be found in Australia. Vocalist, Shohrat Tursun, is a world renowned musician and Uyghur Bard who has travelled the world performing the hidden treasures of his culture. Live, they range from having the attack of a rock and roll band, to emanating the contemplative vibrations of a Sufi inspired hymn. Shohrat's voice will change your internal chemistry. Be inspired by the sound of multicultural Australia.

The Festival was established by Richard Petkovic (Cultural Arts Collective) in 2011.
Sacred Currents has been established as a non for profit organisation to guide the Festival into the future.

We created the Sydney Sacred Music Festival in 2011 and its great to see it getting recognition for creating new work with diverse artists and their communities.
